Setting Up a Study Space for Online Learning [INFOGRAPHIC]

  • A home office is a great place to study. Be sure you have plenty of room for both a computer and folders or notebooks.
  • Keep your study space free of distractions as much as possible. You can let friends and family know your school schedule so they’ll know not to contact you during this time unless it’s an emergency.
  • As an online student, you’ll need an internet connection that’s fast and reliable.
  • If you have physical books, keep them all in a place that’s easy to reach from your study space.
  • Utilize natural lighting if possible. If you are studying at night, be sure you have ideal lighting conditions.
  • If you plan on studying for long periods of time, take short breaks every so often to stretch your legs and stay alert.
  • While many students like to listen to music while they study, it may not be your best option. Ambient noise can help you focus and minimize distractions.
  • Breathing fresh air can help you concentrate and avoid dozing off. If the weather is nice you can open a window. If not, houseplants can improve indoor air quality or an air purifier can do the same with the added benefit of ambient noise.
